Two quick notes on this here National Holiday, if that’s how you get down:

First and most obviously is Frederick Douglass‘ famous speech of over one hundred fifty years ago. Think about how little has changed over all that time, and how only recently have we begun to make any traction, and how far we are from being in a place of any kind of equality.

Second, and more hopefully, is a story submitted to one of my favorite sites. Now I have to consider that this story might be a plant, but I don’t care if it is: it’s inspiring enough that even if it’s not real, it could be anyway, if everyone keeps doing the work.

Which, in case y’all forgot, was meant to be the great promise of America. One nation. And Justice For All. The path is always there, but we can’t walk it by sitting on the couch.
